Sons Of The Pioneers performs “Cigareetes, Whusky, and Wild, Wild Women”.

Although the song was out-of-character for the Pioneers and for Spencer, , the song was a big seller for the Pioneers and their recording company, RCA Victor.

Tim Spencer wrote this song in 1947 while working as a member of the Sons of the Pioneers.

Although the song was out-of-character for the Pioneers and for Spencer, who composed a number of outstanding, serious Western songs and whose publishing company owns the rights to “How Great Thou Art,” the song was a big seller for the Pioneers and their recording company, RCA Victor.

As the story goes, Spence got the idea for the song while touring with the Pioneers, when he woke up in a hotel suite one morning to find cigarette butts and empty glasses on the small tables around the main room. He jotted down his ideas for the lyrics and the boys chimed in with exaggerated accents, etc., and later suggested to their record producers that they make a record of it.

Sons of the Pioneers – Cigareets, Whusky & Wild Women Lyrics

Cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane
Cigarettes, whiskey and wild wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane

Once I was happy and had a good wife
I had enough money to last me for life
I met with a girl and we went on a spree
She taught me to smoke and drink whiskey

Cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane
Cigarettes, whiskey and wild wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane

And now I’m feeble and broken with age
The lines on my face make a well written page
I’m leaving this story, how sad but how true
On women and whiskey and what they will do

Cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane
Cigarettes, whiskey and wild wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane

Write on the cross at the head of my grave
‘For women and whiskey, here lies a poor slave
Take warning, dear stranger, take warning, dear friend’
Then write in big letters these words at the end

Cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane
Cigarettes, whiskey and wild wild women
They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insane
